New RIM CEO Thorsten Heins will jump straight into finessing the reworked BlackBerry PlayBook for a launch early this year, ex-CEO Jim Balsillie has confirmed, though the prospect of a refreshed tablet hasn’t helped the company’s diving share price. Described as “a revamp of the poorly selling PlayBook tablet expected early this year” by the  WSJ , the new PlayBook is believed to be the replacement 7-inch “3G+” model tipped in a leaked RIM roadmap earlier this month. The new PlayBook won’t pack LTE – like RIM’s first  BlackBerry 10  smartphones, there’s said to be a chipset limitation that is preventing the company from including true 4G connectivity – which will instead be saved for another new PlayBook, this time a 10-inch model, expected toward the end of the year. Previous leaks have suggested RIM is preparing PlayBook OS 2.0, the updated software for the tablet that will arrive next month, with 1280 x 800 screen support, indicating one or both of the new slates will have a higher-resolution display. Logitech to offer new webcam tech for business users

Logitech has announced that it is set to offer up some new technology for webcams that will make them work better for the business users out there. The new tech is intended to help the business world accelerate the adoption of videoconferencing and Unified Communications (UC) in the enterprise. According to Logitech, one of the reasons, UC failed in some enterprise situations was poor video quality and implementation issues.

Pure Contour 200i Air iPhone speaker-dock packs AirPlay

WiFi radio manufacturer Pure has launched the Pure Contour 200i Air , a AirPlay -enabled iPhone/iPod speaker dock supporting local and streaming media playback. The semi-circular speaker includes a 36W RMS digital amplifier and has twin passive bass ports to try to muster some low-end grunt. Connectivity includes both WiFi and ethernet, and there’s a digital audio output socket to hook up a separate amp system along with an analog input for non-Apple PMPs.

Parrot has unveiled a trio of new Asteroid in-car hands-free and navigation systems, the Asteroid CK, Asteroid Nav and Asteroid 2DIN, each offering voice control and more. The Asteroid CK is Android powered, running 2.3.4 Gingerbread on a 3.2-inch TFT display and supporting iPod/iPhone input, three USB ports, SD/SDHC media and line-in, and allows drivers to access apps, web radio – streamed through Bluetooth or USB tethering – and voice-controlled album search.

The  aigopad M803  runs ICS on an unspecified ARM Cortex A9 processor, paired with an 8-inch 1280 x 768 multitouch display and a 6,000 mAh battery. iPhone 4S iOS 5.0.1 battery fix falls short

Apple’s iOS 5.0.1 update looks to have been a smooth first test of the company’s new OTA distribution system, but feedback on whether it has addressed widespread battery problems is less positive. Apple Support Forums are awash with owners complaining that the issue – where an iPhone running iOS 5 sees faster than expected battery drain – remains or, in some cases, has apparently been made worse with the new patch.
